In most of its projects, QFD follows a model of supported design, implementation supervision, effective monitoring and robust impact evaluation based on the best international practices (e.g. evaluation projects by Innovations for Poverty Action IPA or researchers affiliated to The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab J-PAL )
One of the main barriers to the well functioning of private or government programs is the absence of a proper implementation. QFD knows how to develop innovative intervention design, based on robust theory of change, and guarantees that implementation goes ahead as planned by monitoring effectively the deployment of an intervention.For our agriculture projects, we developed a system that identifies beneficiaries of programs using fingerprints. This helps to verify that cash transfers indeed reach their intended beneficiaries.
Also, we have used technology as the basis for the design of innovative interventions and for monitoring their implementation. That is the case for Prospera Digital in the mHealth area and World of Books in education.
Current information technologies allow us to monitor project´s performance at a relatively low cost. For instance, at QFD, we are currently working with FIRA (a Trust fund for Rural Development) to monitor that agricultural technicians are effectively giving recommendations to farmers in their plot, and what exactly were those recommendations. This is possible through the use of an electronic tablet that records GPS coordinates and takes plot pictures. This information is automatically uploaded to an online platform which centralizes all data.
